I have advocated for myself during this internship by making sure I am doing certain tasks correctly. For example, when I was taking pictures for an open house in Fountain Valley, I was always checking in with my mentor to ensure that I had quality photos. I also am always asking what I can do after I have completed something, while also checking in with my mentor to make sure I am on the right track. I am following the advice because my mentor is grateful that I am here and she is getting a lot of work done. She also said she might need my help after the internship is complete, during the summer which can be a great opportunity.
I plan on creating a compilation of all the reports I have been completing. The reports consists of the work I have done and the experiences that I have been through in real estate. I can also present the pictures I have taken and the work I have created in applications. I will have to ensure that the compilation looks great and I will need to take my time on it. Two skills that I can use to help me create it are patience and time management. Through real estate, I have learned to focus a lot longer and manage my time, while also being pro-active. I will possibly need Kym's support when it comes to getting all the pictures but other than that, I think I can do this on my own.
What should I know about you before I start working here?
That my schedule changes a lot and depending on the day, we may work in another office or even at home. What is your job title? I am a real estate broker. What are your main duties and responsibilities? I am responsible for ensuring that I am able to market and list houses in order to sell them. I am also responsible for getting work done on time. Why did you choose to work here? I used to be in computer science, but once I became a mother, I wanted to do what was best for them. Real estate allows you to be at home a lot of the time and I mostly wanted to be a mother. What skills and training are necessary for your position? Before becoming a broker, you must become a real estate agent, which can take a couple months to do when getting your license. After you have been an agent, you can get additional training and become a broker which essentially promotes you to a manager position. How did you acquire these skills? Through school? On the job? I went to school for computer science so on the job. Do you consider a career in this area satisfying? In what ways? I wouldn't consider going into this field before college, but it can be a good career field if you have a college degree and you are settled. Is there anything you wish you'd realized about the world of work when you were my age? What striked me most about yesterday is how loud it was because I was expecting a lot of office work but it was actually really loud. What strikes me about the colleagues are the lack of them because most real estate agents/brokers actually work from home because it's more efficient that way. What strikes me about the work that I'm doing is that it requires a lot of focus and dedication in order to be successful (since it is a competitive field.) I'm excited to experience an open house from the perspective of a broker. I'm worried that I will grow tired of the office work and hate the stuff I'm doing.
I am going to a real estate broker that works at Windermere Real Estate
