"I also learned to take initiative and take full responsibility for whatever my outcome was."
I decided to choose this quote to represent one of my learning curves because I feel like this is a life lesson that was learned by me through this project. I made sure to work hard because I wanted to impress the audience and overall my family. I worked hard and made sure that what I was sharing made sense to me while it was also accurate. If I screwed up on a line or choked up during my opening statement, I would know that it was a lack of practice on my part and I couldn't blame it on any external factor.
"I also learned to not work towards grades and more towards beautiful work because I wanted to have a good statement during exhibition, so that I could look credible and confident."
Being a student, a huge motivation for me is grades, like it is for many of my peers. What I learned throughout this project is that when you work hard on a project and you have passion for a project, the grade will come on its own. I really didn't care about the grade in this project as for me this was a chance to talk about the inequities in our society. I tried really hard to represent the ones who couldn't speak for themselves. In my case it was for all the children who have been placed out of school because of the zero tolerance policy.
"I have learned to participate more in class and I now feel like my opinion matters no matter what the topic is on."
I decided to choose this last quote for my learning experiences because it was the one learning curve that really has changed the way I view class. I have learned to be more confident in myself and most of all not be afraid to get the wrong answers or oppose someone's statement.
My most memorable moment from the symposium was when the guest speakers were talking about their initial responses to the school to prison pipeline because since we have never run through our panel with them, we didn't know what to expect. I didn't think they had so much knowledge on the topic and so much experience because they were educators. I thought they made our panel a lot stronger since they had actual experience with the school to prison pipeline.
