Engineering Pitch
As we know, Zambia is one of the poorest countries in the world and lacks absolute necessities we take for granted on a daily basis. Such as markets, stands, and stores that are an absolutely necessary part of infrastructure for a town to thrive. I want to help the people of Chipata, Zambia who have marketplaces that are unhygienic and unsafe. I want to produce a prototype table that will be long-lasting, convenient, and help sell products more efficiently/safely. There will be (6) 2 meter tables that will be placed next to each other near stops and can be moved accordingly. The table will be about 12 meters long (in total), 1 meter wide, and will be available for multiple salespeople. The table will be made out of aluminum and maple wood in order to prevent workers from destroying the table and aluminum will be cheap to build with. (80 cents per pound) . Maple Wood will be about $4.00 per pound. I want the table to include separate desks in order for multiple people to sell different products at one time. The desk will be about 1.5 feet long and will be 12.7 centimeters tall. The tables are intended to stay outside and will not rust quickly due to aluminum’s layer of aluminum oxide. The tables will have the standard 4 legs in the corners but will also have an added 3 supports down the middle of the table for more stability.
Materials: Aluminum, Maple Wood
Dimensions (Per table): 2 meters x 1 meter x 12.7 cm
Total Weight Approximate (Per table): 90.7 kg
